Multiple Project Portfolios

Companies often have multiple project portfolios to manage. Within a company or business unit, this could be a portfolio of new product development projects, a portfolio of information technology (IT) projects, and a portfolio of capital expenditure (facilities and equipment) projects. Within a larger enterprise, the need may be to manage a portfolio of new product development projects at the business unit level and also manage or oversee the entire project portfolio at the enterprise level.

How it Works

PD-Trak’s “Business Area” capability provides a way to identify a subset of projects as a separate portfolio of projects, control access to this separate subset of projects and to plan/manage this subset of projects in a project portfolio. For example, if PD-Trak is used in multiple departments of a company, each department can be setup as a business area and manage its own projects.

In a larger enterprise, each business unit can be setup as a business area. The business unit can plan and manage its own portfolio of new product development projects. At the enterprise level, the projects can be rolled from each business unit and the enterprise portfolio of projects can be viewed, the attractiveness of all projects reviewed, the mix and balance of projects assessed, and the overall R&D investment determined.
