Project resource requirements such as personnel, test equipment or lab facilities need to be captured to allow resource management across the enterprise, business unit or department. PD-Trak provides a simple way to capture high level resource estimates for proposed projects yet have the ability to capture more detailed estimates as more detailed project plans are developed.
PD-Trak provides a practical, flexible method for performing enterprise and organization level resource planning and management. At the project level, the project manager can capture top-down resource estimates in terms of hours or full time equivalent (FTE) persons by resource type and by phase based on similar past projects to quickly establish resource requirements.
Once a project has been approved or a detailed quotation needs to be developed, the project team might perform more detailed, bottom-up planning. These resource types or persons are predefined in a resource table . This can be done in PD-Trak or they can be done at the task level in Microsoft Project® and imported into PD-Trak. These resource requirements are summarized by weekly time period in PD-Trak to support multi-project resource planning.
Resource availability can be checked as the project manager is considering staffing. Individual people can be assigned to each role on the project.
Managers can then roll up the resource demand for a selected set of resources and projects and compare this to resource availability as defined in the resource pool in PD-Trak’s multi-project resource management tool. This flexible approach allows you to choose the level of resource requirements detail that makes sense for your organization.
